# Nulix Knowledge Base: Structure, URLs, and Key Settings

> Learn how a Nulix knowledge base is structured, how to access it via its public URL, and how to configure its name, visibility, and theme.

A **knowledge base** in Nulix is a self-contained, branded documentation site where you publish and organize information for your customers, teammates, or community. Every knowledge base lives inside your Nulix workspace and is independently configurable — you control its name, language, theme, and who can access it. Whether you're documenting a product, an internal process, or a support portal, a knowledge base is the top-level container that holds everything together.

## Structure

Nulix organizes content in a clear, three-tier hierarchy. Understanding this structure helps you plan your documentation before you start writing.

```text theme={null}
Workspace
└── Knowledge Base
    ├── Category
    │   ├── Article
    │   └── Article
    └── Category
        ├── Sub-category
        │   └── Article
        └── Article
```

* **Workspace** — Your Nulix account, which can contain one or more knowledge bases.
* **Knowledge Base** — A standalone documentation site with its own URL, theme, and settings.
* **Categories** — Topic-based groups that organize articles in the sidebar navigation.
* **Articles** — Individual pages of content that readers browse and search.

## Public URL

Every knowledge base is instantly accessible at a unique URL the moment you create it. By default, your knowledge base is served at:

```text theme={null}
https://yourworkspace.nulix.io
```

If you have multiple knowledge bases in your workspace, each receives a distinct path or subdomain. You can also map a **custom domain** (for example, `help.yourcompany.com`) so the knowledge base feels fully native to your brand.

> [!NOTE]
>
> Custom domain configuration is available on paid plans. See the [Custom Domain](https://docs.nulix.io/customization/custom-domain.md) guide to get started.

## Key Properties

Each knowledge base exposes the following settings, all editable from **Workspace Settings → Knowledge Bases**:

| Property | Description |
| - | - |
| **Name** | The display name shown in the browser tab and header. |
| **URL slug** | The URL-safe identifier used in your knowledge base address. |
| **Visibility** | `Public` (anyone can view) or `Private` (requires authentication). |
| **Default language** | The primary language for the interface and content. |
| **Theme** | Your chosen color scheme and typography, tied to your brand settings. |

> [!TIP]
>
> You can create **multiple knowledge bases** inside a single workspace — one per product, region, or audience. This lets you keep documentation scopes separate without juggling multiple Nulix accounts.
