# Connect a Custom Domain to Your Nulix Knowledge Base

> Serve your Nulix knowledge base from your own domain, such as help.yourcompany.com, with a CNAME record and automatic free SSL certificate included.

By default, your Nulix knowledge base is accessible at a `*.nulix.io` subdomain. Connecting a custom domain lets you serve your knowledge base from an address you own — such as `help.yourcompany.com` — keeping your brand front and center every time a reader opens a support article. Custom domains also improve trust and make your knowledge base easier to remember and share.

## Prerequisites

Before you begin, confirm the following:

* You **own a domain** and have the ability to create DNS records for it (through a registrar or DNS provider such as Cloudflare, Namecheap, GoDaddy, or Route 53).
* You have **access to your DNS provider's control panel** with permission to add or edit records.
* Your Nulix workspace is on the **Pro plan or above**. Custom domains are not available on Free or Starter plans. See [Workspace Settings](admin/workspace-settings) to review or upgrade your plan.

## Steps

**1. Go to Settings > Custom Domain**

In your Nulix dashboard, click **Settings** in the left sidebar, then select **Custom Domain** from the submenu.

**2. Enter your desired domain**

In the **Domain** field, type the full subdomain you want to use for your knowledge base — for example, `help.yourcompany.com`. Then click **Continue**.

**3. Copy the CNAME record value**

Nulix generates a CNAME target address specifically for your workspace. Copy the **Value** shown on screen — you will paste this into your DNS provider in the next step. It will look similar to `proxy.nulix.io`.

**4. Add the CNAME record in your DNS provider**

Log in to your DNS provider and create a new DNS record using the values below. Replace `help` with whatever subdomain prefix you chose, and use the exact CNAME value Nulix provided in the previous step.

```txt theme={null}
Type:  CNAME
Name:  help
Value: proxy.nulix.io
TTL:   3600
```

Save the record in your DNS provider's interface before returning to Nulix.

**5. Click Verify**

Back in **Settings > Custom Domain**, click the **Verify** button. Nulix checks whether your CNAME record is resolving correctly.

If verification fails immediately, your DNS change may not have propagated yet — this is normal. Allow up to **48 hours** and try again.

**6. SSL is provisioned automatically**

Once Nulix successfully verifies your domain, it provisions a free TLS certificate through Let's Encrypt. Your knowledge base will be accessible over HTTPS at your custom domain within a few minutes of verification completing. No manual certificate upload or renewal is required.

> [!WARNING]
>
> DNS propagation can take anywhere from a few minutes to **48 hours**, depending on your DNS provider and the TTL value of existing records. If the **Verify** step fails, wait and try again later rather than creating duplicate DNS records. Adding multiple conflicting CNAME entries for the same subdomain can cause resolution errors that are harder to diagnose.

> [!NOTE]
>
> Nulix automatically provisions and renews your SSL/TLS certificate using **Let's Encrypt** at no extra cost. You do not need to purchase, upload, or manage certificates yourself. The certificate is renewed before it expires so your knowledge base stays accessible over HTTPS without any action on your part.

Once your custom domain is live, consider revisiting your [Branding](customization/branding) settings to ensure your logo, colors, and header content are polished — your domain is now the first impression readers get of your support experience.
